    Dry Needling

Dry Needling (DN), also known as intramuscular Manual Therapy/Trigger Point Dry Needling, is a modern Western medical modality. DN is a procedure in which filiform needles are used to deactivate myofascial trigger points. It is NOT acupuncture.

DN allows muscle spasms to relax and inhibits pain at a local and systemic level. Patients typically report immediate pain relief that can last a few hours to a few weeks to allow for restoration of normal muscle function. Frequency of DN treatment is different for each individual and used with other modalities and exercises in the center.

Patients will be evaluated by a licensed physical therapist and a personalized plan of care will be designed to meet individual needs. Together, we will establish clear goals and begin treatment in a positive and encouraging environment.

Most patients will feel soreness from a few hours to two days, which is the normal response from dry needling. Bruising is expected sometimes within blood vessel areas. Any time needles are used there is a risk of infection. However, our highly trained therapists use a single packed, disposable and sterile needle during treatment.

Conditions that benefit from dry needling:

    • Low back and neck pain
    • Shoulder and arm pain, tendonitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, impingement
    • Hip and leg pain, sciatica, muscle strain, calf-tightness/spasm
    • Foot and ankle sprain, Achilles tendonitis, plantar fasciitis
    • Headache, face and jaw pain
    • Fibromyalgia…And more!

    Muscle Activation Technique

We offer Muscle Activation Technique at our River City location in Omaha, NE. They are one of three locations to offer this in all of Iowa and Nebraska.

Muscle Activation Technique is a specific and unique process for evaluating an individual’s ability to produce efficient muscle contraction. Loss of muscle contraction results in a decreased range of motion, and therefore decreased physical performance. Range of motion testing can indicate which muscles have decreased contractibility and precise forces are applied to restore that muscle’s efficiency.

Our certified specialist is trained to perform several force application techniques that can restore function and strengthen weak muscles. In no time at all, you will be performing your daily activities with ease.

    Post-Offer Employment Testing

Select Physical Therapy in Omaha offers Post-Offer Employment Testing (POET), which focuses on selecting the right person for the job. It is important to recognize that the earliest opportunity to affect future claim costs is during the employment application process.

POETs have also been called physical abilities testing, pre-placement testing, physical demands testing and worker selection testing. The goal of employment testing is to hire individuals physically capable of doing the job; however, in the past employment decisions have been based on medical condition and stereotypes, including age, gender and “healthy” appearance, among others. Medical conditions including back arthritis or degeneration identified on X-ray, high blood pressure and disability or disease are not good indicators of the candidate’s ability to do the physical tasks of the job, and are no longer permitted under ADA/EEOC.

POETs offer an objective assessment of the potential employee’s current ability to do the job they are applying for.
