Our Team

Cynthia Piasta, OTR/L, CLT

Cynthia brings a whole person approach to patient care that is focused on helping people get back to activities they find meaningful. She has worked as an occupational therapist since 2006. She spent her early career specializing in neurologic conditions. In the last six years, she has focused on those with lymphedema and oncological needs. She is passionate about providing patient-centered, evidence-based care. Cynthia is a wife and mother of two children. She enjoys spending time with family, running, hiking, doing yoga, and enjoying the many outdoor activities Asheville has to offer. She loves to travel and try new types of food. She is passionate about connecting with people and advancing her knowledge as a therapist.

Catherine Thompson, COTA, CLT

Catherine is an occupational therapy assistant and certified lymphedema therapist. She started her professional life as a special education teacher and then transitioned to the field of occupational therapy in 2015. She worked in skilled nursing facilities prior to specializing in the treatment of lymphedema. Catherine is passionate about working individually with patients. She formulates a practical plan for managing lymphedema and overall recovery that allows for a more full and engaged life. She enjoys furthering her education in the study of lymphatics and oncology rehabilitation. She also enjoys tending to her plants, swimming, hiking and live music in the local venues. She’s an Army brat moving frequently while growing up, ultimately settling in the mountains to escape the heat and has never looked back.

Andrea Perkins, COTA, CLT

Andrea is a certified lymphedema therapist with a background in occupational therapy since 1997. She is a highly motivated and specialized clinician providing effective treatment with a history of positive results. She is passionate about helping individuals regain independence and well-being in their lives. She has experience working in many settings, including subacute rehab, skilled nursing, assisted living, rehab hospital, home health and outpatient care. Andrea grew up in Iowa and still loves a good ear of sweet corn. She likes to spend time with her husband and daughter, visiting local attractions and historical sites, hiking, mountain biking and doing yoga.

Alex Dowd, P.T., MPT, OCS

Alex is a physical therapist and multisite center manager of the western North Carolina and Piedmont Triad markets. He became the only board certified orthopedic clinical specialist in McDowell County in 2015. He has achieved success in the treatment of low back pain, cervical/thoracic pain, vestibular disorders and upper and lower extremity injuries including a variety of post-operative procedures. Alex was born and raised in Marietta, GA and now resides in Black Mountain, NC with his wife and two children.

Christine Carpenter, Patient Service Specialist

Christine started with Select Physical Therapy in April 2021 as a natural transition with the acquisition of Asheville Lymphedema. She is the face of the Asheville center and manages all aspects of patient and provider scheduling and communications, as well as insurance authorizations and much more. She is a native of Hendersonville. She graduated from South College of Asheville with a degree in applied science and certification in medical assisting. She enjoys private dance lessons, DIY projects, photography, spending time with family, friends and her dog Molly and traveling.
